Stop Fantasizing and Start Executing

A major difference between winners and losers is that losers spend heaps of time thinking about how they could have done things different in the past and what type of person they could be in the future. Winners actively think about practical steps to accomplish things.

Stop fantasizing and start executing — the gap between imagination and action

It is quite fun to sit around and imagine how great you are. You can think about saving a beautiful gal from a group of unruly terrorists; you can think about becoming this amazing musician who just rocks the house; you can think about how you can become the best skateboarder in the future as long as you practice. Inside of your own mind, you can think about anything that you want. However, with all of these fantasies of your future and past, how can you turn such thoughts into reality?

A major difference between winners and losers is that losers spend heaps of time thinking about how they could have done things different in the past and what type of person they could be in the future. These people only think; they regret and they hope, but in the end they don’t really get anything done. Losers just makes plans while winners actively think about practical steps to accomplish things.

"Imagining the life you want feels productive. It isn't. It's just a more comfortable way of staying exactly where you are."

People like to imagine things about themselves for many reasons, and although sometimes it is just fun to imagine yourself in impossible situations, some people utilize their imagination in this way because they feel as if they are missing something from their lives. Perhaps they have their goals and desires in life but are just unable to accomplish them. Other times it is simply because they don’t like the state of their life at the moment, and therefore they are able to release dopamine and serotonin into their brain as their imagined self does really cool fucking things.

The problem with this way of thinking is that you are simply masturbating your mind, and out in reality, you aren’t doing anything at all. Mentally rehearsing your success is like the moments you don't say hi to that girl at the bar and just go home instead. It feels safe in the moment. It's actually just avoidance.

Instead of imagining your life as this abstract concept, go out and do something you’ve never done before to get something you’ve never had. Think of what you want to do and go for it. Become a winner.

Let’s take the musician example. You can play guitar quite well and you are in a band, but at night you sit around and imagine these huge crowds full of women that you are in love with. Every night it’s like this, but during the day you aren’t taking the steps you need to make this a reality. If you think about new songs, different ways you can get some shows booked, how you are going to record your first LP, or anything else on a practical level, then you’ll discover that reaching your goals and aspirations is much easier. With this frame of mind, you can actually become a winner and get shit done.

Imagining your ideal life is basically used just to make yourself feel good in the moment but it isn't doing anything real for your actual life. To turn these imaginations into reality, you need to think of practical ways instead of just imagined fantasies. Master your mind by just feeling good and taking the next steps without any fear at all. It definitely is possible as long as you notice what you are doing and then simply try.

What Are You Actually Doing About It?

The next time that your mind starts taking you to these fantasies, don’t try and stop it but pay attention to what you are thinking about. What are these imagined realities? Why might you be having them?

Fantasizing about your past and future can be quite fun at times, and it’s really no problem to do it every once in a while. However, how can you know when you are actively doing it? What are some steps you can take to start understanding what is happening in your mind?
